I'm a CNC machinist with over a decade of experience in the trade. I specialize in lathes and turning centers but I also have experience with mills, machining centers and many other manual and automated machine tools.
I love working in manufacturing. I find the process of taking something from a design/engineering stage and producing a finished product to be fun and interesting. I have had three years of Lean Manufacturing training from a Shingo Prize-winning company. I am absolutely driven by a Japanese style manufacturing ethos. I have always tried to implement these ideas in every shop I've worked in since.
Recently I have started building upon my lifelong interest in computers by learning to code and becoming better acquianted with GNU/Linux operating systems. Over the past few years I've been teaching myself Python by making small applications. My first Python program is a very simple one that creates NC programs for several common gages and fixtures commonly needed in SES seal production. Another program I wrote in Bash script checks NC programs for common syntax errors like open comments or overly-precise decimals. These errors are then compiled into a report. Both of these projects can be found on my GitHub page. Creating these programs got me excited about the prospects for solving problems, organizing, and automating processes in the factory with code. That is why in November 2019 I enrolled at SNHU to start working towards a BS in Computer Science.
I'm no professional system administrator but since 2016 any computer I personally own runs a GNU/Linux operating system. I also maintain a Debian server which hosts my personal website, gemini capsule, NextCloud instance and other services. I even know how to exit Vim.
Setup and operation of CNC lathes. I train and support a team of CNC lathe operators in Chesterton's Spring-Energized Seal facility. Also involved in programming, quality control and process engineering.
